Spanesi SpA Opens Subsidiary in U.S.

Spanesi SpA, maker of the Spanesi "Touch" Computerized Measuring System, announced at Automechanika 2012 in Frankfurt, Germany, that it is expanding its operation to the U.S. by opening a facility in Naperville, Ill., that will feature corporate offices and a training center/showroom highlighting the Spanesi product range and warehouse.

The story goes that Spanesi SpA founder Orazio Spanesi dreamed of being a panel beater as a young boy, and in 1958 began his journey by repairing vehicles. In 1969, he opened his own body shop outside Padova, Italy, near Venice, which is still operating today.

In the 1980s, Spanesi traveled the world looking for ideas to make the craft easier and faster, including attending exhibitions and visiting facilities in the U.S. In 1989, his passion for assisting technicians with efficient and simple equipment and tools led him to incorporating the equipment he designed for his own shop, and Spanesi SpA was born.

Over the years, the company has expanded its manufacturing facilities in Padova, testing the equipment in their own shop to make sure they make the grade. Spanesi’s children eventually joined him in the business and now work side-by-side with him. In 2005, Spanesi SpA added a spraybooth line and a new manufacturing plant to produce the booths. The company also established itself in the Asia market with a new manufacturing facility in China to mirror the operation in Italy.
