Plymouth Rock Assurance Launches Safe-Driving Rewards Program

Using the Road Rewards app, powered by Cambridge Mobile Telematics, Plymouth Rock auto insurance customers can earn points for their safe driving.

Plymouth Rock Assurance Corp. announced the launch of its safe-driving rewards program, Road Rewards.

Using the Road Rewards app, powered by Cambridge Mobile Telematics, Plymouth Rock auto insurance customers can earn points for their safe driving. Points can be redeemed for rewards, including coffee gift cards, savings on fuel and free movie tickets.

There is no additional charge to participate in the program for Plymouth Rock customers, and driving data won’t be used for pricing, underwriting or cancelling policies, according to the insurer.

Plymouth Rock said it believes that Road Rewards is the first insurance app to deliver rewards to users simply for driving safely, while having no impact on a customer’s premium.

“As an insurance company, safe driving is very important to us,” said Chris Olie, president of Plymouth Rock Assurance. “We’re committed to providing our customers with the tools to drive safely. We believe Road Rewards will have a real impact on driving behavior and people can earn some great rewards in the process. It’s just another way Plymouth Rock gives our customers ‘more than just insurance.’”

The Road Rewards app, available today for iOS and Android, observes driving activities in order to provide a score for each trip. The app displays an average driving score based on how safely the customer has driven over the previous two weeks. The safer the customer drives over the two-week period, the higher their score and the more points they earn.

Road Rewards is initially available to Plymouth Rock personal auto insurance customers in Massachusetts. The company plans to announce availability in other states later this year.

“The Road Rewards program represents the kind of smart, innovative thinking we need to make our roads safer,” said Hari Balakrishnan, founder and chief technology officer at Cambridge Mobile Telematics. “We fully expect this program to have a measurable impact on driving performance. In fact, we recently surveyed more than 700 drivers and found that nearly 60 percent said rewards would motivate them to be a safer driver. Plymouth Rock deserves a lot of accolades for thinking outside of the box to make a difference.”
